A couple years back New Orleans had a theme line that said, "Happenin' Every Day." Never has that been more appropriate than it is right now. You can still listen to Kermit at Vaughan's, check out the antiques on Royal St., and chant "Who Dat" at the Saints games just like you could back then. "Happenin' Every Day" has always referred to the history, culture, music, food and architecture. It's just that now the line has taken on an even deeper meaning.
In New Orleans the rebirth is "Happenin' Every Day". Since the storm, a sense of altruism has spread to every corner of the city as people are pitching in to help their neighbors through Habitat for Humanity, the SPCA, the Katrina Krewe and hundreds of other organizations. As a teacher here, you'd be doing more than enough to ensure the growth of New Orleans, but if you want to get even more involved, the opportunities are endless. If you're looking for a city that's happenin', look no further than New Orleans.
