Changing Public Education in New Orleans

About the Recovery School District
The Recovery School District is a special state school district administered by the Louisiana Department of Education. Created by legislation passed in 2003, the RSD is designed to take underperforming schools and transform them into successful places for the children to learn.

Education in New Orleans
There are no two ways about it, the public schools in New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina were not good. But the storm created an opportunity to rethink the way we teach children. RSD is capitalizing on that opportunity to change the way that education is provided. We're creating changes in our schools that will yield results. Are we where we want to be? Not yet. Are we on the right track to get there? Absolutely. We want you to be a part of this historic opportunity.
